Louisiana’s Industrial Training Programs

Louisiana’s industrial training programs are designed to build and continue to replenish a valuable, well-trained pool of workers for virtually any industry.  Vo-tech pre-employment training, on-the-job training and incumbent worker training insure that companies relocating or expanding their operations in the Gateway Region will have access to workers specially trained in the skills needed by their employers.  Furthermore, Shreveport Vo Tech facility is located within 20 minute drive from the Ward II Industrial Park.

Louisiana Workforce Development & Training Program

Louisiana FastStart™ provides customized recruitment, screening and training to new and expanding, eligible companies -- all at no cost. Recognized for its innovation, effectiveness and efficiency, Louisiana FastStart has quickly established a presence among workforce solutions programs nationwide. Based on a company's immediate and long-term workforce needs, the Louisiana FastStart team crafts unique programs that ensure workers are prepared on day one and beyond. The relationship between the Louisiana FastStart team and Louisiana companies is often multiyear, lasting until the final employee is hired and trained.Customized training available to Louisiana companies expanding within the state by an additional location in a new area, existing Louisiana businesses that have been operating less than three years and companies located outside of Louisiana locating a new facility within the state. The expansion of an existing Louisiana company by the addition of a new technology or product line can be considered.

Louisiana Workforce Commission

Small Business Employee Training - The IWTP Small Business Employee Training Program (SBET) is designed to benefit business and industry by assisting in the skill development of existing employees through individual, standardized (off the shelf) training.  Employers are reimbursed for tuition and required textbooks and manuals once the training has been completed and proper documentation has been submitted to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.  Training costs cannot exceed $3,000 per trainee per state fiscal year.

The Incumbent Workers Training Program is a partnership between the Louisiana Workforce Commission, business and industry, and training providers.  The IWTP is designed to benefit business and industry by assisting in the skill development of existing employees and thereby increasing employee productivity and the growth of the company.

Workforce Investment Act

The Workforce Investment Act is designed to stimulate employee training and retraining of unemployed and economically disadvantaged persons.  Federal funds pay 50% of wages of newly hired, eligible employees. Program pays for tuition, books and training supplies.  Customized training available for new hires combining on-the-job training and vocational classroom training. Locally administered by the Coordinating and Development Corporation.
